This practice is based on the belief that the ring finger of the left hand is connected to the &#8220;vena amoris,&#8221; or &#8220;vein of love&#8221;\u2014a vein that, according to ancient belief, leads directly to the heart. Although there is no scientific evidence to support this belief, the tradition has persisted throughout history.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The history of this custom dates back to the Roman Empire, when the bride and groom wore the ring on the left hand due to the aforementioned connection to the heart. Over time, this tradition spread to the Catholic Church as well.
