How to help your bride choose her wedding dress

1. Shoot video, don’t take photos.

Our advice is to record video clips of the bride in the wedding dresses rather than taking still photos. At the start of each video, state the name of the salon and its location, followed by the wedding dress model and the price. Move all the recordings to a new gallery album named “Wedding Dresses.”

This way, if the bride doesn’t decide to buy immediately and chooses to think it over at her leisure, you have a folder ready with all the necessary information, avoiding any misunderstandings about which salon it was or what the price was.

2. Take notes

The bride has her own notes, and she will write down her impressions of the wedding dresses—either right then or later, once she gets home and reviews the videos. She will likely comment on the fabric, size, or cut—or, as we at “I Said Yes” like to call them, the “technical details.”

Jot down the emotion in your notes—the emotion you see in the bride. Is she twirling happily in front of the mirror? Does she look confident? Or is she perhaps not entirely thrilled, yet willing to give it some thought? Your notes will likely prove decisive in the end.

3. Don’t be a “sack of potatoes.”

You are there because the bride trusts you and wants to hear your opinion. Try to be as involved as possible and offer her advice. If you notice she likes a particular style but something about it is missing or superfluous, try to find a similar model that has exactly what she is looking for—or one that lacks that “unnecessary detail.”
